Teen Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)
A Safe, Effective, and Empowering Martial Art for Teens
Unlike many martial arts that focus on strikes such as punches, kicks, and elbows, our Teen BJJ program is based on defensive techniques with no striking. The focus is on using leverage, control, and submissions to neutralize threats in a non-violent way. Teenagers will learn to defend themselves in a variety of situations, gaining confidence and life skills that extend beyond the mat.
BJJ for Teens (Ages 10-15)
Our Teen BJJ program is designed to improve fitness, teach self-defense, and instill important character traits like confidence, respect, and a strong work ethic. The curriculum is tailored to the needs of teens, while still including techniques and principles taught in the adult BJJ program. Classes are supervised by experienced instructors in a safe, friendly, and supportive environment.
Class Structure:
- Warm-up: Physical exercises and BJJ-specific drills
- Technique: Learn and practice new techniques demonstrated by the instructor
- Active Practice: Apply techniques with partners in controlled drills
- Rolling: Spar with peers to test skills in a live setting
While we maintain discipline, our classes are designed to be fun and positive, ensuring each teenager leaves with increased confidence and a smile on their face.
The Benefits of BJJ for Teens
Self-Defense
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches teens how to defend themselves effectively, without the need for strikes. The principles of leverage, reaction, and base allow smaller or less-experienced individuals to control larger opponents, giving teens the confidence to stand up for themselves when needed.
Increased Confidence
Through practice and repetition, teens build body awareness and coordination, improving their self-confidence both on and off the mat. BJJ helps them develop a sense of discipline and the ability to overcome challenges.
Physical Fitness
As a full-body workout, BJJ improves strength, endurance, and flexibility. Teens also enhance their kinesthetic abilities, which can transfer to other sports and activities.
Improved Focus and Discipline
Through partner drills and sparring, teens learn to anticipate their opponent’s moves and develop problem-solving skills in real time. The constant practice of action and reaction helps improve focus and mental agility.
Key BJJ Positions for Teens
Teens will learn and practice a variety of positions essential for controlling opponents in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu:
- Rear Mount
- Mount
- Knee on Belly
- Side Control
- Half Guard
- Guard (Top/Bottom)
- Turtle (Top/Bottom)
These positions are foundational to BJJ and are taught progressively, ensuring that teens develop a comprehensive understanding of grappling and self-defense techniques.
